Phillip Smith:         Preaching minister

             Phil Smith was born in the mountains of East Tennessee in the small town of Elizabethton on Oct. 21, 1975.  The son of a preacher, he grew up in Elizabethton and graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1993.

 

             Upon graduation from high school, he attended Florida Christian College and graduated in 1997 with a B.A. in Music/Christian Education.  In the fall of 1998, he enrolled at East Tennessee State University to pursue instrumental music certification and remained at ETSU until December of 2000.  He then transferred back to Florida Christian College and graduated in the spring of 2001 with a B.S. in Music/Education.  Phil has also completed some graduate work at the University of Central Florida.

 

             While working at Discovery Christian Church full-time, Phil also works for Florida Christian College on a part-time basis teaching one class.

 

             Phil is happily married to Tonia (Morgan) Smith, a native of Merritt Island, FL, who is also a 1998 graduate of Florida Christian College with a degree in Elementary Education/Music.  She currently works as an elementary school teacher.  They have three wonderful girls: Madyson, Morgan, and Makenna.

 

             Some of Phil’s passions and hobbies are preaching, teaching,  Broadway musicals, percussion instruments of any kind, singing, reading, watching and playing sports, sports officiating, and administration.
